Oct 20 Class

We switched gears to aquatic animals today, covering the Cuttlefish, Emperor Penguin, and Manatee.

We got stuck on whether the Cuttlefish is warm-blooded or cold-blooded, and whether it's a vertebrate or invertebrate.

Next week: Sharks!

Oct 13 Class

We covered Koalas, and then Bears: Polar, Black, Brown, Panda.

Oct 6 Class

For today’s class we primarily watched and discussed the Flight DVD from Answers in Genesis. (We also did the Platypus portion of Incredible Creatures Volume 1)

The speaker on the Flight DVD reminded us that DETAILS are important.

He spoke of 3 main types of flying creatures:
Birds
Certain insects – Flies, Bees, Butterflies
Bats (the extinct Pterosaurs may have been related to the Bats of today)

Birds are incredible creatures that could not have evolved
Most have Hollow Bones (Loons are one of the rare exceptions)
Aircraft often imitate the Warren Struts of Bird’s bones
They have strong muscles, and special breathing abilities.

Some of the particular birds he mentioned were
Arctic Tern
Kestrel
Black Kite
Swan
Gray Owl
Hummingbird

The Archaeopteryx is not a transition between reptiles and birds
There are bird fossils in the layers below it.
It is a bird.
There are modern birds with claws.

He reminded us that there would have been huge climatic changes caused by the Global Flood, that could easily account for the fossils of especially large creatures that have been found.

Then he turned his attention to Flying Insects.
There have always been butterflies. They exist in the fossil record just as they are all now.
All the information for change from caterpillars to butterflies is found in their DNA.

A Biology book I have described Bats as the “only mammals that have developed structures for flight”. Based on what? It would be accurate to describe Bats as the “only mammals created with the ability for flight.”

The DVD ended with asking “Where does information for changes come from?” In Natural Selection, information is LOST! But, you must have information for anything to be created, changed, etc….
